Terminal Modernization
In 2005, the Birmingham Airport Authority (BAA) embarked on a Terminal Modernization Project at Birmingham International Airport. Jacobsen/Daniels Associates, LLC (JDA) was charged with conducting pre-design services to develop schematic alternatives for modernizing the existing 19-gate terminal.
Most notably, JDA was responsible for creating the Program Criteria Document which included results from passenger surveying, an activity demand forecast, and a facility space program. JDA conducted surveys of enplaning passengers at BHM from August 23, 2005 - August 25, 2005. The survey provided information about passenger characteristics, transportation, parking activities, spending, needs and preferences that assisted in determining space requirements. JDA then developed the activity demand forecast, including forecasts of commercial passenger activity at BHM for the period from 2005 to 2020. The forecasts were intended to drive the various planning efforts related to the Terminal Modernization Project. Finally, the facility space program was created to present detailed area requirements for the remodeled terminal building.
JDA's other responsibilities included project initiation and strategy, design day flight schedules, tenant coordination, and financial implementation
