Airport Strategic Planning
A strategic plan can help provide direction and focus while reacting to unforeseen and unpredictable changes in the aviation industry. The Capital Region Airport Authority Board recognized the benefits of strategic planning in their role of establishing policy and setting goals for the Airport. JDA consultants were selected to help guide the Board through the strategic planning process.
The strategic planning process was divided into phases, with the development of a scope of work as the first phase. This was done in order to get a better sense of the number and type of strategic issues facing the Board. By first investigating past practices, key issues and perceptions, political views, and the management philosophy of the Board, a much clearer vision and approach to the strategic planning process was achieved. This enabled the Board to consider, understand and prioritize the strategic issues facing the Airport. It also enabled them to focus their resources on the most significant strategic issues.
JDA Consultants identified four strategic focus areas for the Airport Authority Board to consider, including:
- Airport Authority Board Operating Procedures
- Stakeholders/Partnerships/External Relations
- Economic Development
- Air Service Marketing
Within each focus area, a number of specific strategic and tactical initiatives were developed to help resolve critical issues or improve the execution of key operational responsibilities and improve the visibility and perception of the Airport within the region.
