Metro Detroit, MI – In August 2017, Jacobsen|Daniels (J|D) commenced work with the Charleston County Aviation Authority (CCAA) to develop a Specialty Leasing Program for Charleston International Airport (CHS). This program, also known as the Kiosk/Cart Program, is designed to create direct and affordable opportunities for small and niche businesses to work in a vibrant travel and hospitality industry.

“It is a privilege to work with the Aviation Authority as their small business consultant and assist them in identifying businesses that bring the flavor of Charleston and the entire region into their concessions offerings for their program,” …  “As a small, minority business, we understand the complexities, so when an organization decides to remove barriers of entry for small firms to do business in their airport, we are fully engaged to make sure it becomes a reality. The work is not complete, but we are well on our way to ensuring each firm’s journey at Charleston International Airport has a successful start.”

As a result, four local companies were selected to receive a kiosk to do business in the airport; three of these firms are minority-owned and operated. Their kiosks are expected to open before the end of the first quarter 2018. The companies selected are:

  • Liz Me Mel Dolls & Gifts
  • King Street Cookies
  • Daddy’s Girls Bakery
  • Mama Chef Cuban Cafe

“Having goods and services made right here at home will be a great addition to the airport marketplace,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “The traveling public is more likely to have a disposable income. They are more likely to spend on impulse and in a way that creates fond memories of their time in Charleston. We look forward to helping these small businesses succeed in the vibrant airport environment.”
