J|D Celebrates Opening of LAX Economy Parking Facility

Los Angeles, CA – Jacobsen|Daniels (J|D) would like to congratulate Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) on the opening of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Economy Parking facility. This facility is the first major component of the $5.5 billion Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) to open, and the J|D team is honored to have been engaged in the planning and implementation of this and several other facilities since 2014. This milestone along with that of the Automated People Mover (APM) crossing Century Blvd. and the topping off of the Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility are all visible signs of the better future coming to LAX passengers.
Under its Program Management Advisory Services Agreement with LAWA, J|D was involved in the initial and advanced planning of what was previously referred to as the Intermodal Transportation Facility (ITF)-West. The original plans for this facility had up to 8,000 spaces being constructed with the first phase constructing approximately 3,000 of those spaces. The J|D team worked closely with LAWA staff to justify constructing a larger facility in the initial phase to meet increased passenger demand and other programmatic requirements. This increased footprint required the team to create an overall site plan for the current and future needs of the entire former Lot C area, including clearing of the site for the facility itself and of right-of-way for the APM, reconfiguration of the Avis car rental facilities, and planning for a future (ultimate) extension of the facility in the future.
Following this increase in size, the J|D team developed the initial Program Definition Document (PDD) for the LAX Economy Parking facility. The PDD discussed the desired amenities for the facility, including access from existing and new surface streets, connectivity to the APM, implementation of smart parking technology and electric vehicle (EV) charging within the facility, and ultimately programming of the additional space needs for the future the LAX Badging Office to the facility.
